OER in Health

OER in Health was a result of our application to Hewlett Foundation for funding. Hewlett felt that a road map for OER in Health was necessary. Dr. Harvey V. Fineberg, president of the Institute of Medicine and a member of the Hewlett Foundation board, hosted a OER in Health meeting which Larry Lessin, Dianne Kaseman and Anil Srivastava attended as also a colleague of Gerry Hanley from MERLOT.

OER in Health seems to be moribund. I discussed this with Mike Smith last week. Mike is now Special Counsel to the Education Secretary Duncan and continues to strongly advocate OER. There is likely to be a substantial stimulus funding allocated for OER, specially for international education cooperation.

I have asked Mike to speak to Fineberg about OERC-INCTR working with IOM to revive OER in Health as it is relevant and important to OERC. Larry also knows Dr. Fineberg.
